I was looking for a certain ‘sound’, for this song called ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen..

I heard it on the Shrek soundtrack and loved it. Using YouTube, I listened to 1 or 2 songs of Hallelujah, by different artists. Then, with excitement, I found a video that knocked me down by its psychological punch. The voice that came through felt as though it was ancient, holy , ethereal.. Like a chorus of angels.

It was Chester and he was singing for a friend, Chris Cornell’s at his wake. I’m without words thinking about how extraordinary this is!

Then I came across this raw footage of Chester in an interview. He was describing his monster to the world. Very straight to the point, and honest about his disposition. NEVER.. had I heard ANYONE famous say, that their mind was a ‘bad neighborhood’!

It was beyond ingratiating for me!! Because of the way I have felt at times, It felt as though his experience had mirrored my own. By his almost defeated explanation about his mental illness, I heard my story.

It was intense, watching another person struggle with shadows and ghosts like I have.. having listened to him share about how he shouldn’t be alone in his dangerous mind!!.. I could not help, but feel a kinship with him and it felt good.

At around 9:00 a.m. PDT on July 20, 2017, Bennington was found dead by his housekeeper at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California.[60][61] His death was ruled a suicide by hanging.

Bennington’s death occurred on what would have been Chris Cornell’s 53rd birthday.[69] Cornell’s death was also ruled as suicide by hanging two months earlier. Bennington was a close friend of Cornell’s.

After Bennington’s death, his widow Talinda Bennington launched a campaign called 320 Changes Direction in honor of her husband to help break the stigma surrounding mental illness.

I’m blessed by the circumstances that brought this beautiful interview into my lap. It is heartbreaking, hearing the struggle and then knowing he lost the battle with his mind that last time. NLM
